ITALY’S REPORT
Before presenting a brief report on the teaching of Consumer Education in the Italian
school system, I would like to clarify a few points regarding my personal position.
First of all, I am not an expert on the didactic of Consumer Education nor am I an
“expert” in this eld.
I have been though the moderator of a study committee, nominated by the Minister
of Edcation of my country, for the full application in Italy of the Resolution of the Council
of Ministers of Education of the CEE aded 9th of June 1986 (n° 86/C 184-07) regarding
Consumer Education in primary and secondary schools in Community Countries.
This Committee, composed of representatives of the various General Directions
and Central School Ofces of our Ministry, in coordination with the General direction
of Cultural Exchange (to which I belong) and the Central School Programming Board
(Ufcio Studi e Programmazione), projected in 1989 and 1990 a General strategy in order
to achieve the full application of the above mentioned Resolution of the Council of the
European Ministers of Education of the CEE countries.
As the main themes of the Resolution
were, to some extent, already present
in the programmes of specic schools
subjects or under experimentation in
schools, the rst task of the Committee
was to gather information and analyse
data furnished by schools in Italy
through the State Provincial School
